now that heart is getting enough blood and i should have a normal life

I am 24 years old. I was born with Tetralogy of Fallot.
I have had 3 open heart surgeries and am in need of a 4th. I'm having
problems with getting insurance or financial help. Please pray for me
there.
Also, my sister is 15 years old and has my same problem. She has had 2
open heart surgeries and 2 pacemakers.
If there is anyone else out there with Tetralogy, please e-mail me. I
would like to talk to others. Also, if anyone has children with
Tetralogy and would like to talk to me, my sister and I would be happy
to share our stories. |

I'm a 53 year old cardiac spouse who is dealing with
congestive heart failure in my husband (56). In the last ten years, he
has had lymphoma cancer, diabetes, and a triple bypass (two years ago).
He then had to have a stent put in because one of the artieries closed
up and had to retire early. I sometimes feel my coping ability is all
used up, and I fight to keep myself upbeat as much as possible. My
husband, who used to be the life of the party, changed dramatically
through all his illnesses. He became withdrawn and somewhat reclusive.
Our social life dropped off completely years ago. Now, I have feelings
of loneliness and anxiety all the time.
I just stuff them in and go on. My good job helps me to cope.
I'm writing this now on my lunch hour. Would love to hear from others
who are cardiac spouses. |

MY DAD IS 52 HE HAD A HEARTATTACK AND WORKED RIGHT
THROUGH IT. THE NEXT DAY HE WAS STILL FEELING BAD, SO HE FINALLY
DECIDED TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL. HE WAS THEN TOLD ABOUT HIS HEARTATTACK
THE DAY BEFORE, I REALIZE I COULD HAVE LOST HIM THEN. HE ENDED HAVING
TRIPLE BYPASS SURGERY, THE 6 WEEKS AFTER THAT WERE VERY PAINNFUL AND
DEPPRESSING FOR HIM. IT HAS BEEN ONLY THREE MONTHES AND ALREADY HE IS
BACK TO WORK, HE STILL IS NOT FEELING SO GOOD. PEOPLE KEEP TELLING US
HORRIBLE THINGS, LIKE YOU NEVER LIVE PASS 5 YRS AFTER A HEARTATTACK AND
SURGERY AND YOU WILL HAVE ANOTHER HEARTATTACK. MY DAD QUIT SMOKING AND
HE GETS PLENTY OF EXCERSICE, TOO MUCH. IT WOULD MAKE ME FEEL SO MUCH
BETTER IF SOMEONE WOULD PLEASE PLEASE SEND ME AN EMAIL OF A STORY OR
OPINION THAT COULD POSSIBLY EASE MY MIND. I CAN'T BARE TO THINK MY
DADDY HAS BEEN GIVEN A DEATH SENTENCE! {PLEASE} |

I am 54 year old wife of 70 year old cardiac patient.
The last two years he has been going downhill - the last two months his
health really deteriorated. He is in the hospital now, with shortness
of breath even when not moving. His health is complicated by coronary
artery disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes, and
kidney dis-function. This is a long weekend, so of course health
professionals are scarce - but lots of tests are being run and I hope
to have answers Tuesday. At times I am just worn out from the demands
of his health care, my own health problems, and working full time. I've
had lots of therapy to prepare me for his death, but I know I will fall
apart when he dies. I fear that time is coming very soon. My best
wishes to all of you who are suffering and especially their caregivers.
Savor each moment with your loved one. Don't expect too much of
yourself. All we have is "the here and now". |

Hi! My father just recently went in to the hospital to
have that die job done. His doctor says he has to have a tripple
by-pass done. He has 3 clogged arteries, but can not have the balooning
done because they are at the bottom of the artery. My father hasn't
been to a hospital since he was 5 years old. He is now 54 years old. He
doesn't smoke, nor does he drink. He is scarred to death of what is
going to happen to him when he goes in for this operation. He is
planning for the worst. He is making the family to get together, to
discuss his will. He says he knows of too many people that have had
this done, and none of them are alive today. He is being hard on my
mother. She doesn't know if she can make it through this. I live an
hour and a half away from my parents. I have 3 children;14,7,2, and a
fiance to take care of, while I am going for an Accounting Diploma. My
sisters both have emotional problems. My brother just graduated, and is
trying to get enough money to go to university. I am the only able one
to help my parents out. What can I do to help my mother servive, keep
my father calm, and keep my sanity? |

New
heartmate and New cardiac survivor need first hand advice re:AICD |
| Comments: |
I am 57 and an RN and now a new Heart mate. My husband
of 35 years(our anniversary is September 15) is 59 and suffered
according to the doctors a "large" heart attack 3 weeks ago tonight. We
are very lucky that he will be with me on Monday, our 35th anniversary.
3 weeks ago tonight he had an MI on the way home from work. He was
immediately life flighted for an emergency cardiac cath and placement
of a stent due to 100 % occlusion of his left anterior descending
coronary artery also known as "the widowmaker lesion". justly named
that due to the poor survival rate. He feels well but the cardiologist
just told us that he needs to think about an AICD. (automatic implanted
coronary defirillator) because his EF is 35 % and he has electrical
changes in his heart that can in 5 % of people like him, cause
SCD(sudden cardiac death). I have been extremely anxious, tearful,
angry and most of all very fearful of losing my husband since 8/23/03.
I know this is all normal but it does not make it easier to handle. I
have prayed for guidance and help We have a wonderful support system in
our children and friends. If anyone now has an AICD, please write to me
for my husband to learn about the experienc. He has yet to make a
decision. For me, I feel it will lessen my anxiety and fear of SCD. I
just viewed the Heartmate video which I got from the hospital where I
work and it lead me to find this site. My prayers go to all of you.
Thanks so much for the support. |

my husband had heart attack before i meet him,and we
have had a rocky 2 yr relationship, but after an angina attack 5 months
ago he left me and his daughter and has gone somewhere where it is hard
to contact him. WE saw him after 4 months apart, and he wasnt the man i
fell in love with-hard and uncaring, and not that interested in his
daughter 13 months old. is this normal after a cardiac scare- he dosent
want passion in his life, although he has another girlfriend- anyone
with a similar story? or is he just dysfunctional anyway |

list, but for personal reasons, declined. His younger brother had a
transplant 1yr. ago and is doing terrific. We all thought that would
change his mind, but no.It kills me to know that I will probably find
him one day passed on.How the heck do I deal with these emotions? He`s

Hi,
I'm new to this site, but glad I found it. My husband who is 61 and I'm
53 has CHF, COPD, diabetes, etc. He has been disabled for years, but
his health is worsening now and I don't know how much longer he can go
on.
I feel that my life is taken up by fulltime work, caring for my
husband, but there is no other choice. The demands of caring for a
heart patient is more than I could ever imagine. You just get so tired
that everything becomes so complicated.
Thanks for listening and hope everyone has a good day. |

I am having trouble getting answers. My husband has
CHF(1998). Then In 1999, he had pancreatis (sorry about the spelling.
In 2000, he became diabetic. This year his cardiologist and I convinced
him to get the biventrical pacer with the ICD. July 18 it was placed
and he came home on July 19. That night he had what the doctors are
calling a diabetic sezure. In the emergency room, his oxygen was
dropping into the 70's without oxygen. With oxygen they could get it up
to around 90 - 93. Now he has emphysema. He stopped smoking in 1998. He
says with the pacer/icd he feels great. But he still is unable to do
anything. He was a perfect candidate for the pacer/icd. I can not
understand why there is no improvement. He doesn't have SOB. I am sorry
for being long winded. But no one will listen to my concerns. I just
can not understand where the emphysema came from. Before the sezure, he
had no problem with the oxygen. Thank you for letting me bend your
ears. |

Hi,
My wife's father had a heart attack in June. He has had a triple
bypass, and she has been taking care of him ever since. This happened
in Redding, CA. She found a Cardiac Support Group in Redding, and it
really helped her to deal with the situation. Now he is in Sacramento,
and I was hoping that someone might know of a Cardiac Support Group in
the Sacramento area. Not necessarily in Sacramento, but within driving
range. I have been looking for weeks, with no success. Each lead just
takes me to a dead end. Could someone please help me with some
information. My wife desperately needs this.
Thank you,

I'm not sure my situation qualifies for this site but I
sure hope it helps me deal with things.I am a 32 year old female who
has always been fairly healthy. In April I contracted a Strep B
infection which left me septic and with discitis. I was on Pen G via IV
Pump for 3 months. In June I was rehospitalized with Pleurisy and now
at the end of August I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Emboli - 2 in the
left lung and 1 in the right. I was finally diagnosed after attending
at emergency 4 times and being sent home with "Anxiety". I was told
prior to the VQ scan that I was a VERY low probability for a blood clot
because I am not on the pill, never had surgery, Genetic testing was
negative all in all have NO reason to have a PE. I had 2 doppler
ultrasounds done on my legs/stomach and both were negative. I am on 10
mg of Warafin daily. My INR rate is currently at about 2.1 but I am
also taking Levenox injections until the INR is stable. I’ve been
prescribed Celexa for depression but find it’s not helping. I’m
petrified to be left by myself and have even gone to the extent of
taking out a Funeral Insurance Policy, should something happen. I
couldn’t imagine my family carrying the burden of losing me and paying
for a funeral. I feel like I’m at the end of my rope and truly losing
my mind. I’m so scared all the time I work myself into a near frenzy. I
have been to numerous Specialists who assure me I’m fine and everything
will be fine but they still can’t tell me what caused it exactly. My
poor husband doesn’t know what to do with me anymore and my family
tries their best. When I’m alone I literally sit there and wait to die.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

I had a heart attack at age 56 and it led to a triple
by-pass at a VA hospital here in Mass. I am going on 7 years since my
operation and I am still ok for now. I follow the doctors orders about
95 % of the time. I quit smoking cold turkey watch my dietand and still
physically active. My wife is 50 yrs old and I am 64 and she cannot
keep up with me. At first I was fearful and very depressed but I got
over that for the most part. I have my days when I get somewhat fearful
but the bottom line is that I live life to the fullest with no regrets.
I don't smoke drink or mess around in areas I shouldn't. I don't have
wings yet but I'm hoping |

Hi, I love this site, I dont feel so alone now. My
husband, 44, just had a heart attack and quadrupal bypass this month
(Nov). I to am so fearful of it happening again, we just found out that
he needs to go have another cath done to see if there is any blockages
left. I am wondering how everyone deals with the financial aspects. He
has been a trucker and I have been a stay home mom to our 3 sons well
needless to say there is no income coming in now. Hes been sick since
the bypass so I have been caring for him and every avenue we have gone
down to get help has closed a door in our face. How do you deal with
the fear of everything they are going through and with the fear of
loosing your home. I just wanted to know what resources are out there
when you are out of work for a while to heal? Does anyone know of any
places you can turn to? Thanks so much! Jenny |

My fiance is 49 and just had Bi-pass surgery. He is not
the same man. He is angry and verbally abusive. He was never this way
before. I have known him for 7 years. It has only been 4 weeks since
his ordeal. He is back to work partime and has quit smoking. He does
nothing but complain to me about how I do things. I have folded his
clothes the same way for 7 years. I have cooked the same way for 7
years. I have driven our car the same way for 7 years. He complains
about how I do everything. I am at my end with him. I cry all the time
and have been put on anti-depressants. People have commented that He
looks more healthy than me. Help me. Give me some hope that he will get
better and be the man I fell in love with. I feel like the man I love
went into surgery and came back as someone else. |

My Grandmother is 88 years old and has congestive heart
failure. She is taking all the appropriate medications prescribed by
her general practicioner. Through a cousin (also with the same
condition) I scheduled an appointment with a specialist. To make a long
story short another family member cancelled it and believes grandma is
too old and weak to see anyone else. I would like to know if a trip to
Ohio Heart Care would add to the quality of my granmother's life? |

my husband, joe, is only 47 and has had two heart
attacks and a quintuple by pass two months ago. he is recovering
remarkably well and is doing most of what has been medically
recomended. he had been dieting and lost significant weight prior to
surgery, but is really off diet since coming home.
he has always been hot tempered and prone to yelling. he is also the
most caring and caretaking human being in the world. he is however
increasingly depressed and intolerant of my thoughts or action about
almost anyone. his temper is unpredictable and frightening. he is
unwilling to discuss what is happening or how he is feeling. we are all
walking around on egg shells and it's a pretty awful way to live. it is
also not helping.
we have had several deaths in the family and quite a number of major
stressors in the past 4 years. we've gotten through them as a family
and the latest heart surgery was just another. i may be wrong.
i am feeling very desperate but considering separation when he is fully
recovered. |

My husband is 29 and I am 26. Three nights ago,
Christmas Eve, I had to call 911 for him because, as we later learned,
he had a heart attack. Not the pillar of health, he smokes, doesn't
exercise much, and doesn't eat very healthy foods. He's now going to
try and do a 180. Upon returning home from the hospital, I find myself
extremely nervous, overprotective and angry at him all at the same
time. I am wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and has any
words of advice for me on how to best help him with his lifestyle
changes or for me on how to not be so anxious... |
